My media use.

Ashley Randall || Here we go again.

8:30 a.m.: Wake up and with no sense of urgency I mindlessly scroll through my notifications that include TikTok and Discord. TikTok is pretty much my number one task when I wake up (other than relieving myself) and Discord is checked simply because no one ever sleeps when it comes to Discord.

9:00 a.m.: I get up and out of bed. I talk to my family, I take my dogs outside, I feed my cat and I decide what my plans are for the day. In this case, it was a day dedicated to schoolwork.

9:30 a.m.: I gather all my clothes and I head up to the shower where I will have a YouTube video play in the background, once it is done I will be finished with the shower and I will get dressed and continue forth with my day.

10:00 a.m.: Now that I am clean and awake I pack my bag, talk with my family a bit more, take my dogs out a final time and head out to the nearest Starbucks to work.

10:30 a.m.: During this time I am driving and as I do so I am listening to a podcast on Spotify.

11:00 a.m.: I arrive at Starbucks and I find myself a seat, put my headphones on, and indulge in some relaxing instrumental music on Spotify.

11:00 a.m., 12, 1, and 2:00 p.m.: During this time I am neck deep into Canvas, Google Documents, and my textbooks. I complete several assignments and read a few chapters before I decide it is time to head out and get ready to meet with my partner back at home.

2:30 p.m.: While on my way home I am still listening to a podcast on Spotify as I hit up Jersey Mike’s and a Publix to get him not only a sandwich but some flowers and cream soda. Gotta show appreciation everywhere you can. 🙂

3:30 p.m.: I arrive back home and talk with my partner on the phone as he is on his long commute back home. While we talk I am cleaning up my desk space and around our bed so he can lie down as soon as he gets home and my work space is ready for more assignments when the time comes. I also let the dogs out so they can run around and I can keep an eye on them through the window.

4:30 p.m.: My partner comes home and as he eats and I clean we watch some YouTube videos on the TV.

5:00 p.m.: We head upstairs to help my parents with some chores around the house. We also throw in some of our laundries and go back downstairs. When we get downstairs we let the dogs come back inside and they instantly pass out from running around.

5:30 p.m.: Back downstairs to watch some more random YouTube videos. Today it was car crash videos (not of the violent kind, just funny accidents to laugh at). We then wait for my parents to come home with pizza.

6:00 p.m.: We go get pizza. It tastes awful and we feel sick but we decide to Hell with it and turn on some Netflix. The Watcher has several more episodes and it’s just starting to get to the good part.

6:30, 7, 8, and 9:00 p.m.: We finish The Watcher and the ending was horribly disappointing but we had a good time watching it together in the comfort of our bed and slightly cleaner room. Partner had to get up early so I swap back to YouTube and play some sleep sounds (rain and soft thunder) so he can go to bed as I do a couple more assignments on the PC.

Looking back on my day today I must say that aside from the several-hour Netflix binge, I didn’t do that bad of a job with my media consumption. Usually, I spent my entire day rotting in bed on TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube (simultaneously), however, today I not only completed several assignments and was studying for a few hours, but I did plenty of chores and even took some time out of my day to make my partner’s day a little better. It might be weird to say but I am quite proud of this day and I hope to spend more days just like this one.

Now, when it comes to credible media I have to be honest and say that the only media source I actively search on is NowThis. I feel like they are straight to the facts with no funny business and are incredibly on top of up-to-date information. Not only that, but they are very unbiased with many topics except for the ones regarding basic human rights. I have also found that when comparing NowThis to other sources they have another level of honesty within them because they don’t have people reporting live all the time. Its usually primary sources with words describing the situation given in the pictures and/or videos.
